Lost and Found "A Pictorial of Surfing Vol.1"70-79"

The Story

Body language and bare feet. Adrenaline and attitude. Innocence and fearlessness.

The Lost and Found Collection, Volume 1 tells the story of an era that can never be duplicated. A preserved archive marking transitional periods in photography, style, fashion and surfing, this album represents the distillation of more than 100,000 film negatives, prints and slides.

This was a different age. Capturing each moment the first time was paramount. Focus was crucial. No second chances. Manual cameras with 36 frames of Kodachrome film were the ammunition. Century lenses and homemade water housings were the gear.

Though these images were born in the surf world, many decades ago, they transcend the genre when viewed in the light and look of Vogue, National Geographic, Life and Rolling Stone magazines of the 1970s. Vibrant portraits of a dream state and its carefree, natural beauty. These sundrenched frames from a free and easy age in Hawaii, California, Mexico, Africa, Tahiti are not just memories, they glow with new life.

The Lost and Found Collection Volume 1 brings together nine distinctly different photographers whose pictures form a single narrative. From gypsy jetsetters to masthead staffers, underground locals to traveling hobbyists, their lenses focused on the art of living simply along these wave-washed shores.??
