OBBC: Hurricane Flo Recap

September 17, 2018

WHAT'S NEW & HAPPENING

Here's a little hurricane recap for all of our customers, both local and out of town.

The start of hurricane prep:
-buying packs of water
-stocking up on candles and batteries for flash lights
-making sure you have plenty of canned vegetables and non-perishable foods for when the power goes out
-tracking down a generator (if you have one)
-waiting in long lines at the gas station to fill up your car with gas -boarding up the windows

Thank you for all of your concerns and prayers! The days leading up to the arrival of Hurricane Florence were full of strong anticipation.  Projected as a Category 4, prepping for Hurricane Florence was no joke!

As with any hurricane on the Outer Banks, you never really know what to expect until it actually hits so it's always better to over-prepare.
Fortunately, here on the Outer Banks, we were graced by Hurricane Flo. By the time it hit our little barrier island on Friday, it acted more as a Nor'easter than an actual hurricane. There was minimal flooding in coastal sound areas, and some wind and rain, but the weather was no where near even being close to what was projected on the news forecasts and weather channels. Even in Cape Hatteras, the weather was not nearly as bad as more inland and low-lying areas like New Bern, NC.  Local Cape Hatteras photographer Daniel Pullen went out in the storm to capture some pictures of the ocean overwash and flooding down south (shown below). After everything was said and done, the Outer Banks definitely got extremely lucky! But although we were graced by Hurricane Florence, our hearts go out to those in the Wilmington and New Bern, NC areas who experienced devastating flooding and storm damage.  Prayers to all those affected.
